The basic parameter is, of course, the lifting capacity. The absolute minimum is 3000 kg (or 3 tonnes). Such a lift will allow you to handle virtually any passenger car. It will also be able to raise some delivery vans – and these can also appear in your company, even if the tire is changed during the season.
Another thing is the lifting height.
When selecting a scissor lift, remember about the lifting height. This is important for the working comfort. For example, scissor lifts offer the following lifting ranges:
- 620 mm (REDATS L-520)
- 960 mm (REDATS L-550)
- 1850 mm (REDATS L-600)
Car scissor lift for workshop – how does it work?
The scissor lift can either have one or two platforms. They make it possible to raise the car to a certain height. The construction of this lift, however, makes it suitable for working at a tyre service. How about the car repair jobs? Apparently, “scissors” can be useful here too.
The user can operate between platforms freely because they are not connected with each other. Thanks to this, the user gets convenient access to:
- exhaust system
- braking system
- other parts of the chassis
Scissor lift or two-post lift?
The answer to this question is – it depends. If your clients look for a solution taking little space, a scissor lift will be a good choice. It will provide excellent comfort during typical tyre service works.
This does not mean, however, that the scissor lift will always be able to replace the two post version. The latter can be more useful for pulling out the engine or transmission from the car. It just gives much more space to work at.
But … A scissor lift can also work on some underbody jobs. There are no columns that may hinder access to various parts of the body. This means there is no need to lie under the car.
It is also worth remembering that many scissor lifts are portable devices. Thanks to this, they can easily be set it anywhere at the workshop. For example, some models of our scissor lifts are equipped with wheels – L-520 and L-550. It is very easy to move them, even by one person.
Scissor lift or one-post lift?
Which one will be a better choice? Apparently, both types of lifts provide similar options. Convenient access to wheels or thresholds – this is what they have in common. However, there are some differences.
For example, a one-post lift gives easy access to thresholds or other bodywork components in the car. On the other hand, a scissor lift will be much more convenient for tyre repairs work – where one-post lift isn’t necessarily the best choice.
To recap, one post-lift is great for:
- work on suspension,
- works at thresholds or wheelhouses,
- work on the brakes,
- works on the exhaust system.
And scissor lift is great for:
- work on tires (replacement or repair),
- works at thresholds or door edges,
- brake system jobs
- works on the exhaust system
So what – scissor or one-post lift? Well, the single-column version wouldn’t work too well at a tyre service. That’s where scissor lifts gain advantage.

- Class B20 / B25 concrete
- zone around the jack: 1 m (not less)
- power supply: 400V
- concrete: minimum 15 cm thick (always ask the seller)
Work safety with scissor lift
Is the scissor lift reliable and safe? Yes. Unless the user exceeds the max. capacity of the device, it will work hassle-free for years.
There are lifts on the market equipped with special systems warning against abrupt departure of platforms. It is worth checking if the scissor lift chosen by us is equipped with such solutions.
For example, the REDATS L-550 and REDATS L-600 have special buzzers that activate when the lift lowers – from 10 centimeters down. Why is it so important? Such a system in the jack will allow you to avoid the risk of crushing your feet.
