Most people know Stainless Structurals for our standard shapes like steel beams, channels, angles and tees. But we produce more.

Stainless Steel Trapezoid Bar

Our custom trapezoid steel shaped bar is specifically made for the wastewater and water control industry. This custom section is produced by our hot rolling mill at Montanstahl in Switzerland. By hot rolling these stainless steel sections we can produce with tight tolerances and longer lengths. Many original equipment manufacturers of bar screens and rakes for the wastewater industry have switched from round bar or rectangle bar to our trapezoid bar. Because of the increase in demand for the steel trap bar, Stainless Structurals now stocks three different sizes on the floor at our plant in Texas. Our inventory consists of 40 mm x 6 mm x 3 mm, 40 mm x 8 mm x 4 mm, and 50 mm x 12 mm x 6 mm. We stock these sizes in 20 foot random lengths in both 304/L and 316/L stainless steel.

Advantages of Trapezoid Bar in Bar Screens

In the past, wastewater equipment manufacturers have mainly used rectangle bar for their bar screens and trash rake applications. One issue with using the rectangle bar is that debris can become trapped or wedged in between the bars just out of reach for the rake or teeth to clean. This can cause excess build-up and clogging.
To prevent this problem, manufacturers are switching to our trapezoid stainless steel shaped bars. The trap bars are used as the base of the upstream screening surface with the thickness of the bar decreasing in the direction of the water flow. This set up prevents debris from becoming stuck or wedged and allows for it to flow completely through.
Some manufacturers have also made these steel bar screens and equipment out of other metals like carbon steel. While cheaper, the carbon steel can easily corrode and fail under the conditions and environments that are prevalent in water and wastewater. There is no better material for these products than stainless steel. It is the most durable and corrosion resistant material for this and the bar screens and equipment will last much longer.

Stainless Structurals: Your Water Control Material Provider

The trapezoid bars are just one example of how our products are used in the wastewater industry. We have also sold many large sections like stainless steel beam and channel for the construction of wastewater treatment plants. If your project requires a small shape like the trapezoid bar or a large 18 inch beam, we are here to help. Contact Stainless Structurals today for your next water control project.
